William Brunt

Dr Taylor died in 1788 and left his house (the Mansion) to a distant relative William Brunt.

Local legend has it that Dr Taylor left the Mansion to Brunt because he was fed up with his other relatives arguing over who should inherit his considerable estate.

Dr Taylor died in 1788 and, having no children, left the Mansion to William Brunt, who was living in the house at the time.  Commonly believed to be Taylor’s pantry boy, he was in fact a distant cousin.  Local legend has it that Taylor left the house to Brunt because he was fed up with his other relatives arguing over who should inherit his considerable estate

One of the largest and most imposing gentleman’s town house in Georgian Ashbourne. Originally built in the 1680s and improved to the latest Georgian fashions (partly by Joseph Pickford) in the second half of the 18th Century.
